The technique follows a precise
procedure, which goes from the learning phase based on
a model or sample, to the next one, that of working on
a print.
The print is a pattern transferred onto a card or on
a cloth and represents the bases for the realization
of the lace. It is realized by a designer or by the lacemaker
herself and it is then transferred onto the pillow lace.
Once having started the work, the first pins are pricked
on the print and the threads wound around the bobbins
are anchored to them which all hang at the same height.
Crossing the bobbins amongst themselves, the lace with
the pattern reproduced beneath is obtained. The lace
maker has always to bear in mind the pattern and according
to it find the right spot where to fix the pins to keep
the work faithful to the print.
Once completed the lace, freed of the pins, will look
compact and rigid, delicate yet strong. |
